The Manager’s Ecology – Succeeding through Personal Balance and Integrity of Being
This introductory episode invites you to discover the philosophy underlying Eve’s book, Equi Management.
The subtitle of this book, “for a new ecology of the manager,” is the manifesto of this founding conversation.
Success Comes Through Individual Balance
The central thesis defended is that the prerequisite for all managerial and leadership success lies in the balance of the person. The goal is to consider the individual in their integrity and their balance, by first taking care of the person who becomes the leader. The approach rests on the premise that if the individual’s balance is good, they have every chance of succeeding as a manager.
No to “Twisting”: Maximizing Strategic Skills
Eve’s approach is to refuse to “twist people” or ask them to be different from who they are, because that takes time and leads to a mediocre result. Employees have an extraordinary clear-sightedness and perceive when their leader is not authentic.
The work consists of supporting managers by identifying their “nuggets” or “strategic skills.” For example, instead of asking someone authoritative not to be, they are encouraged to use their “directiveness” in a constructive and interesting way.
Integrating the Personal and the Professional
A leader’s success is inseparable from their experiences and behavior in their personal life. If difficulties arise in the personal sphere, they can block professional action. While it’s not about being intrusive, it is essential to adopt a “human perspective” and take this integrity into account in order to understand what is happening and unblock action.
The Role of Consulting: Comfort and Uncertainty Reducer
The role of consulting is to provide comfort and security to leaders in their turbulent lives. External, non-judgmental listening allows the leader to “put down their bags” and to prioritize their actions, which is often blocked by contextual disruptions. Consulting acts as an “uncertainty reducer,” allowing the leader to be at the peak of their potential by putting them at ease.
Listen to this episode to understand how aligned leadership, one that respects the individual’s deep nature and overall balance, is the key to lasting performance!
